Have you ever had one of those moments when a word or phrase comes into your head, a memory so crystal clear that it seems like yesterday, but in reality is from years ago?

This happened to me last week during the first of our commemorative assemblies, Yom Ha’Shoah, and stayed with me through Yom Ha’Zikaron and into Anzac Day. Ironically, I recalled the Hebrew word zachor – remember. Specifically, I recall from my early days at 91¶¶Òõ that this word is not only about remembering a thought; it is about ‘acting on what is remembered’. My challenge to our students is not so much what you will remember but rather how this knowledge will impact the decisions you make and the person you are becoming. How will you use this knowledge and the lessons learnt to influence positively the people around you?

I take a moment to thank those who helped us remember this week – The Year 6 Leaders, The Tzevet, our Shlichim, our Jewish Life and Jewish Learning Team, our School Leaders, the community leaders and our performers. Together, you strengthened our memories, bringing meaning, personal connection and authenticity to these commemorative events. We value and respect your willingness to share your personal stories with us; through you and alongside you, we honour the fallen!

My message to students is to turn remembrance, Zachor זָכור, into action, Ma'aseh מַעֲשֶׂה.
